Summary and Suggestions
A. Purposes of Practicum
The purpose of this practicum is to hone the future educators of the world to embrace diversity and inclusivity. It is a training ground to be flexible and open to the continual progress of education. It is an opportunity that aids the future educators to experience not only teaching strategies but also the culture. It helps in building bridges towards differences and ensure a collective success for all. This practicum is an elemental facet that solidifies one’s teaching endeavor.
B. Procedures of Practicum
The practicum in Future Integrated School and the stay in Dong Thap University follows a schedule and timeline where there are particular activities that need to be accomplished on time.
C. Outcomes of Practicum
The outcomes of the practicum can be elaborated into two (2) main points:
Embracing Diversity.
Personally, one of the significant impacts of this practicum is how diversity is underscored as a factor of empowerment that strengthens building of relationships towards others. For instance, in a class observation, together with Indonesians and other Filipinos, we brainstormed our ideas to determine the commonality in our observations. More so, this helped in establishing common ground across differences.
Pivotal Experience in Teaching. The SEA Teacher Program facilitated learning that is beyond classroom experience. It is pivotal in a teaching career to have first hand participation in opportunities like this since it delivers profound learning. The theories, philosophies of education, strategies, and methods were put to practice. Additionally, it was put into action outside our comfort zone. It was an effective ground to hone our skills, identify our strengths and weaknesses as future educators.
D. The Challenges of Practicum
One of the challenges of the practicum was stepping out of our comfort zone, however, this challenge became transformative. It helped us in being more independent and accountable toward our entire learning experience in this practicum.
E. Overall Impression
The encompassing experience of the SEA Teacher program delivers an impression of excellence. This practicum is an encapsulation of a substantial involvement pivotal to the development of an educator in one’s vocation. The collective exposure in this program gifted me with different perspectives and let me be the better version of myself in a place where unfamiliarity feels yet familiarity was homed. I firmly believe that it helped me grow holistically in all the facets of my being. It was an honor to be part of this program. To grow and learn across all borders.
F. Suggestions for Future Improvement
It is understandable that nothing is set in stone until it is happening, one of my suggestions is to have a concrete schedule to follow and activities that involve everyone to strengthen rapport. All in all, it was amazing to be part of this program.
